Location

Campus

Our campus is located at The Gunston School in Centreville, on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, and only a short drive from Annapolis, Baltimore, and Washington DC. Nestled on 75-acres on the Corsica River, Gunston's unique location brings science to life every day with outdoor labs and real-time environmental research.

Heron House & Sail Loft

With a beautiful view of the Corsica River, Gunston’s Heron House is one of two primary campus facilities serving the Chesapeake Watershed Semester. The second floor “Sail Loft” houses a beautiful student lounge and classroom for CWS students. Equipped with comfortable chairs and couches, a television and dry-erase wall, as well as a study corner with tables and chairs, the Sail Loft is a perfect space for quiet study, collaborative learning, relaxation, and fun. The Sail Loft also houses the CWS Administrative Offices.

Cliff House

Perched on a bluff with 270-degree views of the Corsica River, Cliff House is a former summer camp cabin that was converted into a lovely waterfront classroom. This learning space is equipped with lab equipment, a large-screen television, internet access, tables designed for flexible group work, ergonomic furniture, and ample storage for student belongings.

The Waterfront & The Boathouse

Gunston enjoys nearly ¼ mile of water frontage with beachfront access to the Corsica Rover, and is nestled adjacent to a major living shoreline restoration project which serves as a research station for the Maryland Sea Level Rise study. Gunston’s waterfront and boathouse serve as a home base for the Chesapeake Watershed Semester’s equipment like seining nets, fishing rods, waders, watercraft (including an individual kayak for each CWS student), and scientific research tools. It also houses the school’s championship-level rowing and sailing teams.
