What about sports?

The CWS schedule accommodates students who wish to play team sports at the Gunston School. Students miss some practices and competitions when they are in the field on learning Expeditions. CWS can also offer a physical education credit for a student looking to remain active without participating in a team sport.

I live more than an hour away, can I still attend?

Yes, we have local host families who are willing to house our students during the semester. There is an additional fee to cover room, board, and transportation. Many host families have students enrolled in Gunston and CWS. For more information, please contact CWS Director, Ronnie Vesnaver.

How do colleges view students who attend a semester school?

From the Semester School Network: “Students who attend a semester away not only differentiate themselves from their peers, demonstrating their independence to college admissions offices, but they also learn to articulate who they are and how they learn. Our students are able to convey a better sense of themselves through their essays; this is reinforced by the college recommendations that our faculty write for the majority of our alumni.”

Will grades and credits transfer back to my school?

Yes, CWS is a fully accredited program of the Gunston School. Students will receive a transcript from the Gunston School listing the credits earned in each discipline. We work closely with your school to ensure that the courses listed on the transcript smoothly transfer back.
